Fujitsu Limited and DT-Axis Co., Ltd. have confirmed a new partnership aimed at advancing the digital health sector. The two organisations signed a memorandum of understanding to assist research institutions, pharmaceutical firms and medical device companies with the development of Software as Medical Device (SaMD). This collaboration will provide a complete support structure that covers everything from initial system design to regulatory approval and final sales.

Software as Medical Device includes tools such as AI-driven image diagnostics and therapeutic applications. While these technologies are increasingly vital for preventive medicine and treatment, developers in Japan often face significant hurdles. Even when research is promising, many firms struggle to build development frameworks that meet strict regulatory standards or manage the transition to commercial use. Fujitsu and DT-Axis intend to solve these issues by helping companies establish reliable systems from the very start of the development process.

Fujitsu brings a wealth of experience in healthcare system development and post-sales maintenance. The company also offers the Healthcare Personal Service Platform, which is a secure infrastructure for managing sensitive medical data. Meanwhile, DT-Axis has a successful history of gaining regulatory approvals for medical devices. By working together, the two firms aim to streamline the design and operation phases to ensure products are ready for market as quickly as possible.

The partnership is not limited to development support. Both companies have expressed interest in creating a dedicated distribution platform for SaMD. This would create a full ecosystem that manages a product from the laboratory all the way to the healthcare provider. By simplifying these complex processes, the collaboration seeks to improve the speed and quality of medical technology entering the market. Both firms stated that their ultimate goal is to build a one-stop support system that contributes to the general well-being of the public through better access to innovative digital health tools.
