Before joining Delta Air Lines, Fletcher spent over 15 years at General Motors, holding leadership roles such as VP of Global Innovation and VP of Electric Vehicles, where she led the launch of the Chevrolet Bolt and Cruise technology.
Sion Power Corp., a leader in electric vehicle battery technology based in Tucson, has appointed Pam Fletcher as its new CEO. Her leadership officially begins on August 13, succeeding Tracey Kelley, who will now focus on advancing the company’s battery innovations in his new role as President and Chief Science Officer.
Fletcher brings a wealth of experience to Sion Power, having previously served as Senior Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer at Delta Air Lines, where she spearheaded efforts to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. Her extensive career also includes over 15 years at General Motors, where she played a pivotal role in the development of electric vehicles, including the Chevrolet Bolt, and the introduction of Cruise, GM’s hands-free driving technology.
“Again and again, Pam has been at the forefront of the automotive industry, leading award-winning product, technology, and new businesses teams,” Stefan Jacoby, board chair of Sion Power, said in a statement. “She has a passion for innovation and a track record of scaling high-growth business ventures, disrupting established industries, and attracting new customers. She has the skillset and passion to lead the commercialization of Sion Power’s breakthrough Licerion battery technology and we’re thrilled for this next chapter.”
In January, Sion Power secured a significant $75 million Series A investment, led by LG Energy Solution, with additional support from Euclidean Capital and Hillspire LLC, the family office of former Google CEO Eric Schmidt. This funding is crucial as the company moves toward the commercial production of its Licerion lithium-metal batteries, which boast nearly double the energy capacity of traditional lithium-ion batteries.
The company is poised to begin manufacturing these advanced batteries by the fourth quarter of this year, with large-format cells designed to enhance the performance of both commercial and consumer electric vehicles. Sion Power’s expansion in Tucson is expected to generate 150 new jobs, with 27 hires anticipated this year alone. The overall economic impact of this expansion is projected to be $341 million over the next five years.
Fletcher expressed her enthusiasm for her new role, stating, “Commercialization means more affordable electric vehicles for consumers more quickly, bolstering adoption and ultimately helping us get closer to a zero emissions world.”
“I am honored to join this incredible company and I want to thank Tracy Kelley for his leadership to this pivotal point and all he will continue to do for our team.”
