United Bank for Africa (UBA) Ghana has appointed Linda Naa Dzama Quaynor as Chairperson of its Board, making her the first woman to hold the position since the bank began operations in Ghana. She succeeds Kweku Andoh Awotwi, who previously served as Board Chairman.
Quaynor brings more than 25 years of experience spanning management consulting, financial services, public policy advisory and corporate strategy. Her career has taken her across Africa and international markets, working with governments, regulators, financial institutions, multinational companies and development organisations.
Her professional background includes senior positions as Programme Director for Nigeria at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, Senior Partner at Vircan Capital, Partner at Deloitte Consulting West Africa, General Manager at EFInA and Senior Executive at Accenture. She has also served on a number of corporate and institutional boards, giving her extensive experience in governance and strategic leadership.
At UBA Ghana, Quaynor has already been involved in conversations around the future of financial services. Earlier this year, as a board member, she spoke about the changing relationship between traditional banks and fintech companies, arguing that collaboration between the two sectors will be essential to advancing financial inclusion, improving cross-border payments and supporting intra-African trade.
Her appointment comes as the banking industry continues to undergo significant change. Digital transformation, financial inclusion, evolving customer expectations and the growth of fintech are reshaping the way financial institutions operate across Africa.
For UBA Ghana, Quaynor’s experience across consulting, financial services and public policy gives the board a leader with a broad understanding of both the commercial and regulatory environment in which the bank operates.
Her academic background spans accounting, finance and business. Quaynor holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Finance from Middlesex University and an MBA from the University of Kent, as well as executive education in Strategic Management at Harvard University.
She currently serves as a board member of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund and as Board Chair and Chair of the Investment Committee of Delwik Group in Luxembourg. She has also previously chaired the ARM Advisory Board and continues to advise the Nigerian Economic Summit Group.
Quaynor’s appointment is therefore significant not simply because it represents a first for UBA Ghana, but because it places a woman with extensive experience across business, policy and financial services at the centre of the bank’s governance.
As African financial institutions continue to navigate rapid technological and economic change, the role of board leadership is becoming increasingly important. Strong governance, strategic oversight and an understanding of changing markets will be central to how banks respond to the opportunities ahead.
For Quaynor, the appointment adds another chapter to a career built across sectors and markets. For UBA Ghana, it marks a new era at board level.
And for women in Ghana’s financial services industry, Linda Quaynor’s appointment provides another visible example of a woman reaching one of the highest levels of corporate governance in banking.
