HM Treasury announced on 23 April 2026 that Baroness Stuart of Edgbaston has been reappointed as the Chair of the Royal Mint Advisory Committee (RMAC). This extension will last for a period of five months. Her current term officially started on 1 March 2026 and is scheduled to end in July 2026. This decision ensures continuity for the committee which she has led since her first appointment on 1 March 2021.

The RMAC plays a significant role in the design and selection of UK coinage. Members are appointed by His Majesty the King following recommendations from the Prime Minister and the Economic Secretary to the Treasury. To maintain public trust the Commissioner for Public Appointments regulates these selections. This oversight provides independent assurance that all appointments follow the Principles of Public Appointments and the Governance Code.

Baroness Stuart brings a wealth of experience to the unpaid position. She entered the House of Lords in 2020 as a non-party affiliated peer. Since then she has taken on several significant roles within the public sector. She was named the First Civil Service Commissioner in March 2022 and currently holds the position of Chair for the Wilton Park Board and Advisory Council.

In line with standard transparency requirements for public officials Baroness Stuart has declared her political neutrality. She confirmed that she has not taken part in any political activity during the previous five years. The Royal Mint Advisory Committee relies on such independent leadership to manage its responsibilities. The committee remains an essential body for the Royal Mint as it balances heritage with modern requirements for the nation’s currency and medals.
