The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and the Women in Aviation Singapore Chapter (WAI-SG) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at encouraging girls and young women to pursue careers in aviation and to nurture the next generation of female leaders in the field. The MOU was signed by Mr. Han Kok Juan, Director-General of CAAS, and Ms. Lou-Ann Seet, President of WAI-SG, during the WAI-SG Gala Dinner 2024. The signing was witnessed by Mr. Chee Hong Tat, Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance.

Under the MOU, CAAS and WAI-SG will collaborate to promote aviation-related discovery and experiential activities specifically for girls and young women. They aim to create platforms and resources that educate this demographic about the diversity of the aviation sector and the various career opportunities it offers.

Additionally, the partnership will focus on promoting early interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields, encouraging young women to pursue careers in aviation. Finally, they will support initiatives that help young women build leadership skills, establish strong networks, and develop professional relationships within the aviation industry, contributing to the sector’s growth and development.

Singapore’s aviation sector is set for strong growth, particularly with the upcoming Changi Airport Terminal Five, which will increase passenger capacity by 50 million by the mid-2030s. This expansion will create diverse career opportunities for Singaporeans, including pilots, engineers, and roles in technology and sustainability. The partnership between CAAS and WAI-SG aims to encourage more young women to explore careers in aviation through targeted outreach efforts.

Mr Han Kok Juan, Director-General of CAAS said, “CAAS is happy to support WAI-SG in its work in developing women in aviation since its inception in 2021. Our latest partnership with WAI-SG is aimed at building a stronger pipeline of women in aviation and developing our next generation of aviation leaders. As the aviation sector in Singapore continues to grow, we encourage more women to pursue a career in aviation and to seize the opportunity to grow with Singapore aviation and work with us to take it to even greater heights.”

Ms. Lou-Ann Seet, President of the Women in Aviation Singapore Chapter said, “We are honored and thrilled to collaborate closely with CAAS to nurture young female talent and empower women to pursue aviation careers in Singapore. This partnership is a significant milestone in our efforts to promote gender diversity and inclusion within the aviation industry. It also demonstrates WAI-SG’s dedication to foster strong partnerships in the aviation ecosystem where opportunities are abundant, and encourage women to join and thrive in this dynamic sector.”
