Lilium, a Germany-based air taxi developer, has reportedly secured a substantial order from Saudia, the state-owned Saudi Arabian airline, according to a source familiar with the deal.

The startup is expected to unveil the Saudia order at an upcoming event at its headquarters near Munich later this month, as per a source familiar with the situation who spoke on condition of anonymity ahead of the official announcement. Lilium refrained from providing a specific comment but extended an invitation to the event, indicating that reporters would witness a significant contract signing.

This potential order from Saudia represents a significant milestone for Lilium, as the company boasts a total of 780 firm orders and letters of intent so far. These commitments, including the prospective deal with Saudia, are crucial for Lilium’s ongoing development of its flying taxi technology, relying heavily on advance payments from customers. The company is on track to conduct its first manned flight by the end of this year, marking a pivotal moment in its journey toward commercial viability.
