Microsoft’s AI division, known as Microsoft AI, is gearing up to inaugurate a pioneering AI hub in London. The focus of this hub will be on advancing consumer AI products, research, and capabilities, with a particular emphasis on projects like Copilot.

The newly established Microsoft AI London hub will be at the forefront of cutting-edge initiatives aimed at developing state-of-the-art language models, supporting infrastructure, and top-notch tooling for foundational models. It will work in close collaboration with Microsoft’s AI teams and partners, including OpenAI.

Heading this groundbreaking endeavor is Jordan Hoffmann, an esteemed AI scientist and engineer with previous stints at Inflection and DeepMind in London. Hoffmann will be leading a team of highly skilled Microsoft AI professionals based in the company’s London Paddington office.

Given the abundance of AI talent in the U.K., Microsoft AI is committed to making significant long-term investments in the London hub, including hiring top scientists and engineers. Job openings will be announced in the coming weeks and months, targeting individuals who are passionate about tackling the most intriguing and complex AI challenges.

The establishment of the Microsoft AI London hub complements the company’s existing presence in the U.K., which includes Microsoft Research Cambridge. It also aligns with Microsoft’s recent announcement of a £2.5 billion investment aimed at upskilling the U.K. workforce for the AI era and developing infrastructure to support the burgeoning AI economy, such as bringing 20,000 advanced GPUs to the country by 2026.

As Microsoft continues to push the boundaries of AI innovation, further updates are anticipated, reflecting the company’s commitment to extending the benefits of AI across the U.K.
