Mecomed, the leading association for medical technology in the Middle East and Africa, has officially launched the Women in MedTech Network (WMN), a new initiative aimed at empowering and supporting women across the MedTech sector in the region. The announcement was made at an inaugural event that highlighted the growing need for diversity and inclusion within this fast-developing industry.

The event, which attracted professionals from across the sector, marked a key milestone in Mecomed’s ongoing commitment to fostering equality and providing career development opportunities for women in MedTech. Farah N. Hamdan, Mecomed Board Member and General Manager for CEEMA at Zimmer Biomet, spoke passionately about the importance of diversity in driving innovation within the sector.

“We believe that diversity and inclusion are essential to innovation and advancement in MedTech,” she said. “The launch of the Women in MedTech Network reflects our commitment to supporting women professionals as they take on leadership roles and make significant contributions to healthcare in the MEA region.”

At the heart of the Women in MedTech Network is a mentorship program designed to provide guidance and professional development opportunities for women aiming to take on leadership roles within the industry. This program is seen as a crucial step towards addressing the gender imbalance that still exists in senior positions across the sector.

Rami Rajab, CEO of Mecomed, also spoke at the event, emphasising the importance of initiatives like WMN in bridging this gap. “The Women in MedTech Network is a vital initiative for the industry, addressing the fact that only 1% of CEO positions in the MEA MedTech sector are held by women,” he said. “By providing essential resources and mentorship, this platform empowers women to excel and lead innovation within MedTech, ultimately enhancing healthcare outcomes for our region.”

The event featured a series of key discussions that laid the groundwork for the network’s future activities. Participants were introduced to the platform’s vision and objectives, and were given a first look at the mentorship program designed to foster connections between experienced leaders and emerging talent. The event also provided a valuable opportunity for attendees to network, exchange ideas, and build relationships with other professionals in the MedTech sector.

The Women in MedTech Network promises to be a powerful resource for women in the region, creating a supportive community where they can share experiences, find mentors, and access resources that will help them progress in their careers. With the launch of this new initiative, Mecomed is taking a significant step toward ensuring that women have the tools, connections, and support they need to thrive in the MedTech industry and beyond.
