In honor of the International Day for Women and Girls in Science (IDWGIS), Huawei Kenya organized its UniTech Talk event with the goal of equipping women with technology skills and boosting their participation in STEM disciplines. The forum’s objectives were to promote connections, information exchange, and mentoring between young women admitted in STEM-related courses at universities and business experts.

The National Youth Council’s CEO, Gloria Wawira, encouraged young women to chase STEM as a way to address important obstacles. She stressed the need to dismiss gender biases that block entry to STEM areas and promoted enhanced guidance and management support.

The President’s Advisor on Women’s Rights, Harriet Chiggai, emphasized the need of speeding up the involvement of women and young people in STEM disciplines and the role of public-private collaboration in advancing gender equality and novelty. “Whether in artificial intelligence, robotics, medicine, environmental sustainability, coding, or data analysis, young people have the potential to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges,” she said, adding that STEM offers a place for every preference and skill.

The event’s speakers talked about programs like DigiTruck, the Huawei ICT Competition, and University Career Fair Platforms that encourage more young women to pursue careers in technology. About 960 (32 percent) of the roughly 3,000 students that competed in this year’s Huawei ICT Competition were female. In March 2025, five girls will go to South Africa for the Regional Finals.

All things considered, the occasion affirmed the demand of empowering women in STEM and forming an atmosphere that is conducive to their growth and development.
