London-based women’s health startup Unravel Health has raised €2.96 million (£2.5 million) to develop a portable device designed to help women monitor their hormone levels at home.
The funding round was led by Conduit EIS Impact Fund and Wrightwood, with participation from Leo Capital, Embryo Ventures, Hermesa and returning investor Zinc VC.
The company is developing the Micro Lab, a palm-sized device designed to measure multiple hormones from a saliva sample within minutes. It is intended to provide repeated hormone readings at home, giving users a clearer picture of how their hormone levels change over time.
Founded in 2024 by Veronika Bridgman, Liza Levy and Dr Alexandra Oti, Unravel Health focuses on technology for women’s hormonal health. Its initial application is designed to measure oestradiol, the main form of oestrogen, alongside three other key hormones simultaneously.
The technology addresses a limitation in conventional hormone testing, which often captures hormone levels at a single point in time. As hormone levels fluctuate throughout the menstrual cycle and across different stages of life, repeated measurements could help women and healthcare professionals understand these changes more clearly.
Unravel Health says its technology has been developed over more than a decade of research at the University of Glasgow and is protected by three granted patents.
The latest investment will support external equivalency studies to assess the device’s performance against established testing methods, the development of additional markers and the start of the regulatory approval process.
The company plans to make its first early-access Micro Lab devices available in 2027 through partners in pharmacy, digital health and clinical research. The device is still under development, and its planned availability will depend on progress with validation and regulatory requirements.
The latest round builds on more than €1.18 million in previous funding from Innovate UK, the Medical Research Council, the Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI), strategic angel investors and Zinc VC.
Veronika Bridgman, co-founder and chief executive of Unravel Health, said her own experience managing polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) helped inspire the company’s work on hormone monitoring.
The company aims to make repeated hormone measurements more accessible without requiring users to visit a laboratory for every test.
Eva-Maria Dimitriadis, managing partner at Conduit EIS Impact Fund, said women’s hormonal health remained an underserved area and highlighted the importance of obtaining reliable data to improve understanding of hormone-related health.
Although women’s hormonal health is the company’s initial focus, Unravel Health says its underlying technology could eventually be used to measure other biological markers, including those associated with heart health and prostate cancer.
The new funding will help the company move towards validation and regulatory approval as it prepares for early access to the Micro Lab in 2027.
