A new healthcare initiative aimed at improving access for women in underserved communities has been launched by the Aleeta Foundation in partnership with GoWellness. The Free Basic Health Insurance Initiative is expected to benefit 1,000 women by the end of 2025.

Led by Dr. Gloria Praise, wellness advocate and GoWellness CEO, the programme offers comprehensive maternity care which covers prenatal check-ups, delivery, and postpartum support. It also offers broader wellness resources designed to support women’s physical and emotional health.

“Our goal is simple: to make wellness accessible and affordable for every woman. Health isn’t just about hospitals, it’s also about prevention, balance, and care that touches every aspect of life,” said Dr. Praise.

GoWellness currently operates in Abuja and Port Harcourt, and is known for its focus on alternative therapies including fitness sessions, aromatherapy, and wellness education. These offerings are intended to complement traditional medical services and fill existing gaps in healthcare.

The programme officially began in April with 250 women already enrolled across Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt. The organisers have confirmed that additional states will be added as the scheme expands over the coming months.

The project is being personally funded by Dr. Praise, marking it as a rare example of private-sector-led healthcare initiatives. Both Aleeta Foundation and GoWellness are now appealing for support from corporate sponsors, development agencies, and individuals to help scale the effort and reach more women nationwide.
