Aramco and SLB are collaborating to develop digital sustainability technologies

Aramco and SLB have reached an agreement to jointly develop, commercialize, and implement digital solutions aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in various industrial sectors. These solutions will be incorporated into SLB’s digital sustainability platform, furthering their partnership established in 2022.

The development of SLB digital sustainability platform will also help the industrial companies to move faster to the path of achieving net zero as they will be able to measure, report and verify their emissions easily. Besides helping the customers meet compliance requirements, this data and intelligence allow them to undertake further deliberate actions to decarbonise, including improving energy intensity, cutting methane emissions, and progressing on CCUS.

Rakesh Jaggi, president of Digital and Integration, SLB said, “Data is essential to support increasing calls for emissions transparency, and taking decisive actions on decarbonisation investments. The digital sustainability platform provides the means to leverage data at scale to drive emission reduction outcomes. We aim to expand the SLB suite of solutions with Aramco’s innovative technologies.”

The agreement outlines a framework for developing various digital solutions on SLB’s digital sustainability platform. This includes Aramco’s internal Combined Heat Power (CHP) optimization solution, designed to enhance energy efficiency, and a Flare Monitoring System (FMS) aimed at reducing field emissions. Additionally, a new co-developed decarbonization planning tool will help forecast emissions and simulate scenarios to identify the best pathways for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions. These solutions will utilize SLB’s platform, which offers robust security, data management, analytics, and AI capabilities for global access.

Walid Al Naeem, Aramco Engineering VP & Chief Engineer said, “For several years, Aramco has been working towards mitigating GHG emissions from its operations with its own internally developed technologies. This agreement marks another milestone in our partnership with SLB, to bring our innovation and expertise to the global energy and industrial market.”
