Kenyan transport platform BuuPass has joined forces with mTek, a leading insurance provider, to offer travelers a more secure and worry-free journey by integrating comprehensive trip insurance into the ticketing process.

This partnership is set to revolutionize the way travelers experience bus journeys in Kenya, providing not just transportation but also peace of mind. By incorporating mTek’s insurance services into BuuPass’s already user-friendly platform, customers can now easily opt for trip insurance when booking their bus tickets, ensuring they’re covered for a variety of potential mishaps.

For just Ksh 30, travelers booking through BuuPass can now add mTek’s insurance, which offers coverage for medical expenses up to Ksh 50,000, accidental death and permanent disability coverage of Ksh 200,000 each, and ambulance services up to Ksh 15,000. The insurance fee is seamlessly included in the ticket price, making the entire process as simple as selecting an option and entering your date of birth during booking.

Expressing excitement over the collaboration, Bente Krogmann, CEO of mTek, said, “We are excited to collaborate with BuuPass. This partnership aligns with mTek’s vision of providing accessible and comprehensive insurance. It offers travelers financial protection and peace of mind in case of unexpected incidents”.

Echoing this sentiment, Sonia Kabra, CEO of BuuPass, stated, “We are thrilled to partner with mTek to offer our customers the added security and peace of mind that comes with travel insurance. This collaboration aligns with our mission to provide the most convenient and reliable travel solutions in East Africa.”

The partnership positions both BuuPass and mTek as pioneers in enhancing traveler safety in Kenya. With buses being the preferred mode of transport for many Kenyans, especially for upcountry trips, this added layer of security is a significant advancement. According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics’ Economic Survey 2024, road transportation contributed Ksh2.6 billion to the economy in 2023, with passenger traffic making up Ksh1.4 billion. The same report highlighted the alarming number of road accidents in 2023, with 9,960 incidents resulting in over 10,000 serious injuries.

This new offering from BuuPass and mTek ensures that travelers can now protect themselves against unforeseen expenses, such as costly medical bills and long-term disabilities, thereby making their journeys safer and more secure.
