Keir Starmer-led Labour Party is all set to witness a golden victory, putting an end to the 14-year-old rule of the Conservative Party, currently led by Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak.

Keir Starmer rose to such a landslide victory, all thanks to his promise to be the agent of change. It has appealed to the people of the UK as the Conservatives lost credibility amid post-Brexit economic crises, a string of scandals, and political upheaval, which saw five Conservative Prime Ministers in eight years.

Who is Keir Starmer?

Sir Keir Rodney Starmer KCB, KC, born on 2 September 1962, has been the Leader of the Labour Party since 2020. A barrister by profession, he has served as the MP for Holborn and St Pancras since 2015. Starmer was the Director of Public Prosecutions from 2008 to 2013, and he played a key role in several high-profile cases, including the Stephen Lawrence murder case.

Starmer was born in London and raised in Surrey. He attended Reigate Grammar School and later earned a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Leeds, followed by a Bachelor of Civil Law degree from the University of Oxford. His legal career focused on human rights, and he was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in 2002.

Entering politics, Starmer was elected to the House of Commons in 2015 and has held various roles, including Shadow Minister for Immigration and Shadow Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union. As Labour leader, he has sought to reposition the party towards the political centre and address issues of antisemitism within the party. His leadership led Labour to a landslide victory in the 2024 general election, ending 14 years of Conservative rule.

During his four years leading the opposition, Keir Starmer moved Labour’s ideology from the far left to the mainstream centre. His argument to people has been that change will come under a Labour government throughout the campaign. That reassured people who were doubtful of Labour, most likely.

Starmer is a devoted soccer fan who likes to watch Arsenal, a Premier League team, while sipping beer at his neighbourhood bar. He would rather shield his family from the spotlight. Starmer’s spouse works for the National Health Service as an occupational health specialist and has two teenage children.
