Uber announces tie-up with Wayve as it seeks to expand in self-driving segment.  The San Fransisco-based giant has already sealed deals with self-driving groups’Waymo and Cruise this year, as it aims to become the preferred ride-hailing app for consumers seeking to hire self-driving cars.

Uber’s chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi said, “Uber and Wayve share a vision of reimagining mobility for the better. Wayve’s AI approach holds a ton of promise as we work towards a world where modern vehicles are shared, electric and autonomous.”

It is not clear where specifically self-driving Ubers will be deployed but Wayve said its autonomous cars will be on the Uber network in various global markets.

Also, Uber has promised to invest in the Wayve as a ‘strategic stake’ while the company is in middle of Series C fundraising campaign. It is, however, not clear as to how much of the investment has been made.

Founder and chief executive Alex Kendall said: “Wayve is building a ‘general purpose’ driving AI that can power all levels of driving automation in any type of vehicle, anywhere in the world. I’m excited to be teaming up with Uber, the largest mobility network in the world, to massively ramp up our AI’s fleet learning, ensuring our autonomous vehicle technology is safe and ready for global deployment across Uber’s network.”
