In the rare instance of vernacular technology education, the Kaduna State Government, Google, and Data Science Nigeria have launched an AI-powered Beginners Learning Video Series in the Hausa Language.

The education series introduces Artificial Intelligence concepts and is featured in the Hausa Language, the most widely spoken language in the Kaduna State of Nigeria. This technology aids in making technology more available and culturally relevant for the area.

These video series explain complicated concepts in a simple yet culturally engaging way, making learning more easy and relevant. This culturally relevant use of technology helps Nigerian young women be a part of the ever-evolving tech sector.

The launch of this series was held at Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Hall in Kaduna with Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State as the Guest of Honour. The launch event celebrated technology, education, and the untapped potential of Nigerian women.

“AI is not just the future; it’s the present,” declared Governor Uba Sani. “By equipping our people, especially our women, with AI skills, we’re paving the way for a more prosperous and innovative Northern Nigeria, and laying the foundation for Kaduna to become a thriving tech hub.”

The Director of Google West Africa highlighted the initiative’s significance, stating, “We believe that technology can be a powerful force for change and are committed to making learning resources available in local languages to empower more people.”

The AI for Beginners series can be watched on the YouTube Channel via Data Science Nigeria’s website, the NITDA education portal, and can also be downloaded. For increased accessibility, the series is also available on USB Drives, distributed across primary and secondary schools, including public video content-copying centers across Kaduna State.
