Sun Life Global Solutions (SLGS) Philippines, the Global Capability Center of insurance and asset management company Sun Life, made a move to influence the future of women in technology in honor of Women’s History Month.  SLGS Philippines stoked the enthusiasm and aspirations of young women who wanted to enter the tech industry through IT Girls: Empowering the Youth in their IT Careers

The program, which offered industry insights, career routes, and opportunity for hands-on learning with SLGS Philippines industry professionals, was designed to inspire, equip, and advance women into successful careers in IT.

Students from different colleges were invited to an afternoon of thought-provoking conversations and entertaining activities hosted by SLGS Philippines in association with WiTech (Women in Technology), a non-profit organization that promotes gender inclusion in technology.

Nathalie Bernardo, Vice President and Site Head of SLGS Philippines said, “SLGS is a strong believer of the importance of nurturing an inclusive and respectable environment. As the technology solutions provider to the leading insurance company in the Philippines, we are in a unique position to inspire and empower young women as they start their career in technology.”

Jennifer Lumbao, SLGS Head of Asia Technology, kicked off the program by discussing major changes in the IT industry.  Key developments including Gen AI, Big Data, Robotic Process Automation, and mobile applications were highlighted in the presentation as technological trends that students can investigate and learn about as they begin their careers.

Additionally, SLGS revealed several of its solutions, such as:

Sun Buddy: It is a round-the-clock virtual assistant that improves advisor onboarding and customer service by giving Sun Life advisers instant access to product knowledge.

Sun Life Asks – An AI-powered internal chatbot streamlining workplace efficiency, from summarizing text to helping in presentations.

Sun Life Mobile App: An easy-to-use platform that lets Sun Life customers locate advisers, manage accounts, and obtain vital financial information.

The workshop’s focus switched to career development in the following section, where Katrina Rodriguez, Head of Human Resources and Communications at SLGS Philippines, led participants through interview techniques, career roadmaps, and workplace advice. The most recent group of Sun Risers, new hires under SLGS’ onboarding program that guarantees a smooth transfer into the business world, were also introduced to the participants.

At the core of SLGS’ culture are Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEI&B).  SLGS promotes career development opportunities and mentorship for women in technology through programs like Bright Women and other employee-led inclusion networks.

With the theme “Her Health, Her Power,” SLGS celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) with a variety of initiatives, including the Filipina CEO Circle Women’s Run PH, an HPV Vaccination Drive, Mental Health Webinars, an enjoyable Zumba and Pilates class for women, and a Fireside Chat with SLGS Women leaders as the finale. The goal was to create an inclusive workplace culture that supports women’s empowerment.

“This International Women’s Month, SLGS Philippines celebrates a global movement that paves the way for more women to pursue their goals. At SLGS, we remain committed to breaking down barriers with initiatives like this workshop designed to open new doors for youth, regardless of gender,” said Bernardo.

“We are excited to continue #AcceleratingAction toward a truly inclusive tech industry by providing insight into the industry and unveiling the exciting career opportunities that await these young women,” she added.
