Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit and husband of tennis legend Serena Williams, has become an investor in Chelsea Women, the reigning Women’s Super League (WSL) champions. Ohanian confirmed the news on Wednesday via a post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

“I’ve bet big on women’s sports before—and I’m doing it again,” Ohanian wrote. “I’m proud to announce that I’m joining Chelsea Women as an investor and board member. I’m honoured for the chance to help this iconic club become America’s favourite WSL team and much, much more.”

Sources have confirmed that Ohanian has acquired a 10% stake in the London-based club, an investment worth £20 million ($26.52 million), which values the team at approximately £200 million.

Ohanian is no stranger to women’s football, having previously been the largest shareholder of Angel City, a high-profile National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) team in the United States, which he co-founded in 2020. The club was sold in 2024 for $250 million. He is also the founder of Athlos NYC, a women-only track and field event that made its debut in September, with winners earning £60,000.

Reports revealed that Ohanian and Williams are expected to be at Wembley Stadium this Sunday to watch Chelsea face Manchester United in the Women’s FA Cup final.

Chelsea Women, who transitioned from Chelsea FC Holdings Limited to BlueCo, the Todd Boehly-led consortium, in June 2024 in a deal worth around £198.7 million, have enjoyed a remarkable run of success. They secured their sixth consecutive WSL title earlier this month, going unbeaten throughout the season and setting a points record.

The team also won the Women’s League Cup in March and reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League, where they were eliminated by defending champions Barcelona.
