The State of Qatar and UN Women formalized their commitment to women’s empowerment by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Doha on Sunday. This agreement was signed in the presence of Her Excellency Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, Minister of Social Development and Family.

The MoU was co-signed by Her Excellency Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al-Thani, Assistant Undersecretary for Family Affairs at the Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF), and Sima Sami, Executive Director of UN Women and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations.

The partnership focuses on fostering cooperation to uplift women’s rights and increase their economic and social participation, in alignment with the Qatar National Vision 2030. The initiative aims to create sustainable development policies and programs that support women’s empowerment and advance their leadership roles.

This MoU is a testament to the shared goals of Qatar and UN Women to promote sustainable development, as outlined by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). It emphasizes the importance of accelerating progress, fostering innovation and technology, and enhancing women’s leadership in various sectors.

Moreover, the agreement includes efforts to boost women’s involvement in public life. This will be achieved through dialogues, data collection, knowledge sharing, and initiatives that ensure equal opportunities for women, thereby strengthening their representation and leadership.

By joining forces, Qatar and UN Women are set to pave the way for a future where women play a pivotal role in the nation’s development and global leadership.
