Valerie Labi, the Co-founder and CEO of Wahu Mobility, is at the forefront of Ghana’s electric vehicle (EV) movement. With the inauguration of Ghana’s first EV assembly plant, Wahu Mobility is paving the way for a sustainable transportation future in Africa.

The assembly plant, located in Accra, has the capacity to produce approximately 200 e-bikes per month, marking a significant step towards Ghana’s commitment to e-mobility production and climate change mitigation.

Labi’s vision for Wahu Mobility goes beyond just building electric vehicles; it’s about creating a more sustainable last-mile delivery option for urban areas. “By 2030, there will be 30 million delivery riders across Africa,” Labi stated in a recent interview with CNN. “As a continent, we are more conscious around becoming sustainable and moving to net zero. And transport was just a huge opportunity to make a difference in that way.”

Labi envisions Africa leading the way in e-mobility, much like it did with mobile money, and believes that designated e-zones and enclaves in urban centers are crucial for innovation in this sector.

Wahu Mobility’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond just manufacturing electric vehicles; it’s about creating a network of drivers and riders contributing to a greener and more efficient urban transportation landscape. Labi’s call to action includes urging the local government to reduce taxes on imported raw materials, making electric mobility more accessible to all.

Under Labi’s leadership, Wahu Mobility aims to revolutionize urban transportation in Africa, providing locally manufactured electric vehicles that are not only environmentally friendly but also affordable and accessible to all. With initiatives like the Ride-to-Own program and partnerships with investors like Blue Lion, Wahu Mobility is well-positioned to shape the future of sustainable urban mobility in Africa.
