Maybank has recently introduced a new malware protection feature in its MAE mobile app. This move aligns with last week’s announcement from the Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) and the Association of Islamic Banks in Malaysia (AIBIM), which outlined plans for all member banks to implement similar security measures.

Maybank’s new feature will automatically check for malware or risky permissions as soon as you open the MAE app. If it detects any potentially harmful software, it will alert you with warnings and block access to the app until you remove the identified malicious applications. The warning will also specify which apps are involved.

MAE will notify users if Developer Mode or Accessibility Mode is enabled, as these settings can compromise the security of the app and your accounts. The bank’s security enhancement page warns that these features may increase vulnerability to external attacks. Maybank also strongly advises against downloading the app or any APK files from unofficial sources to avoid potential malware risks. Keeping these precautions in mind helps ensure the safety and integrity of your device and financial information.

The latest malware protection feature is being gradually introduced to all MAE users, so make sure to keep your app updated to benefit from this enhanced security. Note that this update will not be available on the older Maybank2u app, which is set to be discontinued on August 28, 2024.
