House of Baukjen, the London-based fashion brand renowned for its commitment to sustainability, has achieved a significant milestone, being named the highest-scoring fashion SME B Corp globally. The company’s B Corp score of 153.6 places it among the top five fashion B Corp companies internationally, alongside the likes of Patagonia.
The remarkable jump of 42% in House of Baukjen’s score, following its latest recertification, underscores its unwavering dedication to both people and the planet. A key factor in this achievement is the addition of a fourth ‘Impact Business Model’ (IBM) to their B Corp profile—a notable accomplishment in the B Corp community.
House of Baukjen’s innovation extends to their manufacturing processes. By incorporating a novel dyeing auxiliary in their Portuguese production facilities, the brand has significantly reduced the need for hot washes, thereby cutting emissions from suppliers and dyehouses by 50%. The House of Baukjen sustainability team believes that if this technology is adopted widely, it could potentially reduce the global fashion sector’s carbon footprint by 6.7%. This groundbreaking advancement has played a crucial role in enhancing their B Corp score.
Geoff van Sonsbeeck, CEO & Co-Founder of House of Baukjen, expressed his pride in the achievement: “We are incredibly proud of this achievement. You cannot cheat a B Corp certification, you can’t greenwash this – you have to earn it. This recognition proves our dedication to truly balancing people, planet, and profit.”
The B Corp certification is one of the most stringent social and environmental certifications available, involving a comprehensive assessment of a business across five key impact areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, and Customers.
Baukjen de Swaan Arons, Co-founder and Creative Director of House of Baukjen, also shared her gratitude: “We would like to thank every member of the team, our suppliers, and our customers. Without them, this would not have been possible. We are very proud of our B Corp score, however, we will continue to seek improvements that make the fashion industry kinder to the planet and the people. But for now, a huge thank you to everyone who helped us achieve this!”
