Morocco is set to launch its Women in AI (WAI) chapter this week as part of a national effort to expand female participation and leadership in Artificial Intelligence. The announcement comes ahead of the Women in AI Morocco Summit 2025, scheduled for Friday, 5 December, at Casablanca Technopark.
The new chapter aims to create a coordinated network that supports women entering and advancing within AI-related fields. Its introduction aligns closely with the “Morocco Digital 2030” strategy, which seeks to establish the country as a leading regional hub for technology and innovation. Organisers highlighted the growing importance of developing advanced AI skills, building research capacity and encouraging responsible technological development in the face of rising global competition.
Officials say the initiative is being launched in partnership with key sector players, including Technopark, Orange Morocco and DXC Technology. Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, is expected to attend the summit, signalling strong government backing.
The programme sets out four central objectives: developing an inclusive national AI ecosystem, promoting women’s leadership in STEM disciplines, positioning Morocco as a regional leader in AI adoption and pushing for ethical, sustainable AI development. Organisers argue that expanding access to training and support for women is essential to strengthening digital sovereignty and ensuring the country remains competitive.
Sofia Ghacham, founder and president of the new chapter, described the launch as a pivotal moment for the sector, calling it a “turning point for the Moroccan digital ecosystem.” She said the group is committed to “building ethical and inclusive AI driven by the talent of Moroccan women,” with plans to deepen institutional partnerships and build international connections that will help place Morocco firmly on the global AI landscape.
The summit will gather public officials, industry leaders and technology experts from across Africa, the Middle East and the United States. According to organisers, the presence of Women in AI representatives from regions including Africa, the Middle East and the UAE reflects Morocco’s ambition to act as a regional bridge for collaborative technological development. The event is expected to become an annual meeting focused on advancing inclusive AI growth within the country.
