Following the success of its first exhibition in October 2022 at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum in Hanoi, the Spanish Embassy in Vietnam has brought back ‘The World Needs Superheroines’ comic art event, this time in Da Nang.

The opening ceremony was held on Thursday at the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum, in celebration of Spain’s National Day on October 12 and Vietnam’s Women’s Day on October 20. The exhibition, which is a collaboration between the Spanish Embassy, the Spanish Association of Comic Authors, the Herstóricas Association, Comicola Vietnam, and the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum, aims to recognize and celebrate the contributions of women to society. It also seeks to foster artistic exchanges between up-and-coming comic artists from both Vietnam and Spain.

With 64 pieces by 62 female artists and author groups from both nations, the exhibition offers a wide range of styles and topics, from feminism and love to friendship and social issues.

Nguyen Thi Hoi An, the deputy director of Da Nang’s Department of Culture and Sports, noted that the exhibition gives locals a chance to immerse themselves in Spanish culture and the lives of its people, particularly women. “The exhibition also serves as a cultural bridge, promoting strong cooperation, cultural exchange, and mutual understanding between the people of Da Nang and Spain,” she said.

The event will be open to the public for free from October 18 to November 6 at the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum, located at 78 Le Duan Street, Hai Chau District, Da Nang.

According to Carmen Cano de Lasala, the Spanish Ambassador to Vietnam, “Today’s exhibition will not be the last. It will kickstart many cultural and artistic connection activities in the future.”
