The 34th edition of the Global Summit of Women took place in Madrid with the theme “Women: Transforming Economies”. The Summit witnessed the participation of Dr. Maitha Salem Al Shamsi, Minister of State.

The Summit was from 9th to 11th May in Madrid and drew audiences from across the world including several Heads of Government, ministers, and over 1,400 women, representing governmental and non-governmental organizations, businesses, experts, and university students.

This year’s summit highlighted economic and trade collaboration, popular practices in women’s economic empowerment, technology, artificial intelligence, climate change, businesswomen’s opportunities to cultivate eco-friendly markets, and ways of engaging young women in the developmental agenda.

During the session, Al Shamsi conveyed a message from Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak (the Mother of the Nation), Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF) to the young women about their empowerment and independence. She also conveyed Fatima’s hopes for the summit’s success in advancing global women’s economic empowerment.

Al Shamsi also mentioned an award program, the Sheikha Fatima Fund for Refugee Women’s Award, which was launched under the leadership of Sheikha Fatima. This award recognizes and supports outstanding projects that empower refugee women economically and socially around the world. By highlighting these successful initiatives, the program aims to create long-lasting improvements in the lives of refugee women.
