Abu Dhabi Airports has officially appointed Elena Sorlini as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, following her interim role since June 2023.
With over two decades of experience in the aviation sector, Sorlini brings a wealth of knowledge to her new position. Her career includes significant roles such as Executive Director of Transport and Logistics at ADQ, Vice President of Group Corporate Strategy at Oman Aviation Group, and Strategy Director at Copenhagen Airports.
Prior to her current role, Sorlini served as Vice President at Macquarie Airports, a major player in airport ownership and operation worldwide. Additionally, she holds positions on the boards of Etihad Airways, Abu Dhabi Aviation, and ADQ Aviation and Aerospace Services.
Abu Dhabi Airports manages the operation of five commercial airports in Abu Dhabi. Notably, the recently inaugurated Terminal A at Abu Dhabi International Airport stands as one of the world’s largest airport terminals. It serves as the primary hub for Etihad Airways, the UAE’s national carrier, boasting the capacity to accommodate up to 45 million passengers annually and house 79 aircraft simultaneously.
Sorlini’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment for Abu Dhabi Airports, coinciding with significant developments in its infrastructure and operations. Under her leadership, the organization is poised to navigate challenges and capitalize on opportunities in the aviation industry.
As Managing Director and CEO, Sorlini is expected to drive strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency, safety, and passenger experience across Abu Dhabi’s airports. Her extensive background in aviation, coupled with her proven leadership capabilities, positions her as a key driver of Abu Dhabi Airports’ continued success and growth trajectory.
