American insurance giant WPS Health Solutions has confirmed its acquisition of virtual psychiatric startup Mavida Health. The transaction marks a definitive push by the parent organisation into the expanding digital health market. Founded in 2023 by health technology executive Emma Sugerman and reproductive psychiatrist Dr. Sarah Oreck, Mavida Health delivers specialised virtual clinical care and community programs tailored to women navigating critical reproductive milestones.

The California-based healthcare startup offers targeted mental health treatments across life transitions. These include assistance for people managing Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS), fertility journeys, early pregnancy loss, postpartum complications and perimenopause. Mavida Health holds operational licenses to deliver clinical services across California, New York, New Jersey and Texas.

WPS plans to expand Mavida’s clinical licensing into Wisconsin as its first immediate operational priority. Under the newly announced corporate structure, Mavida Health will continue to operate as an independent subsidiary with its own internal leadership teams. Rochelle Myers, the current Chief Growth Officer of WPS, will take on the role of President at Mavida Health to supervise its regional expansion.

The acquisition forms the foundational piece of a broader revenue diversification plan enacted by WPS. Corporate leaders confirmed the group is assessing multiple targeted investments to expand its healthcare business beyond core insurance administration.

“This acquisition reflects both our strategic vision for growth and our commitment to making a meaningful difference in people’s lives,” said WPS President & CEO Wendy Perkins. “Mavida Health brings exceptional expertise in mental health, allowing us to expand our impact, strengthen our capabilities, and better meet the growing demand for these services.”

“Women’s mental health is inextricably tied to their hormones, and yet for too long, that connection has been dismissed or ignored,” said Dr. Sarah Oreck, Mavida Health Co-Founder. “From PMDD to fertility struggles, pregnancy, postpartum depression and anxiety, and perimenopause, women face distinct neurobiological challenges at every stage of their reproductive lives. These are serious, hormone-driven mental health conditions that demand specialized care. Mavida Health was founded to provide exactly that. Joining WPS gives us the scale to reach more women and families, especially every woman who has ever been told her symptoms were normal when they weren’t.”

Rochelle Myers, Chief Growth Officer, WPS and incoming President, Mavida Health, stated: “Mavida Health is exactly the kind of mission-driven company we want to grow with. This acquisition is a meaningful part of WPS’s strategy to expand into high-impact businesses — and Mavida is a natural fit for where we’re headed.”
