The Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) has unveiled an ambitious new initiative aimed at empowering women in India’s tourism and hospitality sector. Announced during their 10th anniversary celebration on 31st August 2024, the program targets the placement and skilling of 150 women. The first batch of 50 candidates began their training in January 2025, marking the launch of this transformative effort.

This program is designed to equip women with the skills necessary to thrive in one of India’s most rapidly growing industries, addressing the persistent gender gap in the sector. THSC’s mission is to boost women’s participation by offering industry-aligned training that not only increases employability but also supports women in building long-term, successful careers.

The tourism and hospitality sector has long been a key driver of India’s economic growth, providing significant employment opportunities. Yet, women remain underrepresented in the field. Through this initiative, THSC seeks to bridge this gap by offering comprehensive training that meets both industry needs and empowers women to excel in the workplace.

The training program covers key job roles such as Guest Service Associate, focusing on areas like Housekeeping, Front Office, and Food & Beverages. These positions were carefully chosen to align with the current demands of the sector. By equipping women with these practical skills, THSC aims to enhance their confidence and readiness for immediate job placement in respected organizations across the country. The program’s curriculum is developed in collaboration with industry experts to ensure the content is relevant and up-to-date with the latest market trends.

“This initiative underscores our commitment to inclusivity and empowerment,” said Mr. Rajan Bahadur, CEO of THSC. “It reflects our vision to transform the lives of women through skill development and economic independence. By equipping women with the right skills, we’re not just creating jobs but also shaping leaders for tomorrow.”

In addition to technical training, the program places a strong emphasis on developing soft skills. Participants will undergo training in essential areas such as effective communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and workplace etiquette. These elements are crucial for women’s career growth, helping them build the skills needed to thrive in professional environments and take on leadership roles in the future.

Since its foundation, THSC has been a leader in skill development, establishing high standards in training, certification, and placement. Over the past decade, the organisation has forged valuable partnerships with industry leaders and stakeholders, helping thousands of skilled professionals find employment. These relationships ensure that THSC’s training not only provides women with essential skills but also opens doors to job opportunities within India’s thriving tourism and hospitality sector.

The success of this first batch is expected to serve as a model for future expansion. With 100 more candidates set to join upcoming batches, THSC plans to scale this initiative, providing further opportunities for women to enter and contribute to the growth of the sector. This scalability offers the potential for long-term change, creating a workforce where women are empowered to succeed and lead.

To further support the participants, THSC plans to introduce a mentorship program, where experienced industry professionals will guide the trainees through their career journeys. This additional layer of support will help participants navigate the challenges of the workforce and ensure the impact of the program extends beyond training and job placement.

As THSC enters its second decade, initiatives like this underscore the organisation’s commitment to building a more skilled and inclusive workforce. The journey of these 150 women reflects not only individual transformation but also the broader impact of skill development in creating a more equitable and prosperous future. With a strong vision and the backing of its board, THSC remains dedicated to driving meaningful change through skill empowerment in India’s tourism and hospitality sector.
