Sri Lanka will host the FinTech Summit 2025 this September, an international gathering expected to attract over 2,000 participants and 150 global experts from more than 25 countries, according to officials from the Ministry of Digital Economy.

Announced during a media event at the ICTA auditorium in Colombo, the summit is scheduled to take place on September 24 and 25 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH). The event is being organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Economy, the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Hatton National Bank PLC (HNB) and the FinTech Forum of Sri Lanka.

The summit will be held under the theme, “Empowering Sri Lanka’s Digital Economy: Innovations Driving Financial Inclusion and Growth.” It is expected to provide a high-level platform for digital finance leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and investors to explore the future of financial technology in Sri Lanka and across South Asia.

Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne, speaking at the launch, explained the broader vision behind the event.

“Sri Lanka is at a defining moment in its digital transformation journey. As we work towards a USD 15 billion digital economy by 2030, it is critical that we create platforms like the Sri Lanka FinTech Summit 2025 to unlock innovation, formulate strategies, attract investment, and shape progressive regulatory frameworks. This summit fosters dialogue between government, industry, and global partners, enabling us to bridge today’s gaps and build tomorrow’s digital infrastructure with purpose and precision.” he said

The two-day conference will feature six core themes across multiple tracks, covering areas such as the future of finance, global and regional trends, blockchain, AI, digital currency, financial innovation, regulatory compliance, and investment in startups. Sessions will be distributed across five dedicated stages, including the Main Stage, Technology & Innovation Stage, Regulatory & Ecosystem Stage, Innovation Arena, and Executive Boardroom.

Channa De Silva, Chairman of the FinTech Forum of Sri Lanka, emphasized the country’s role in shaping financial innovation.

Organizers shared that the summit also marks a key milestone in Sri Lanka’s push toward establishing itself as a destination for digital financial services and foreign investment. Plans include generating up to USD 500 million in annual foreign direct investment (FDI) by 2030, reaching 95% financial inclusion, contributing 3% to GDP from the FinTech sector, and helping build a network of over 200 locally developed FinTech companies.

Damith Pallewatte, Managing Director and CEO of HNB PLC, who also serves as the Summit Chair, highlighted the event’s relevance in addressing local and global financial access challenges.

The FinTech Summit 2025 is being positioned as one of the most influential finance and technology gatherings in South Asia, uniting voices from across industries to align on policy, innovation, and growth strategies aimed at strengthening Sri Lanka’s digital future.
