RAM Ratings has announced significant changes in its leadership, appointing Julie Ng as its new CEO effective April 1, 2024. Ng’s appointment follows the departure of Awang Za’aba Awang Mahmud, who served RAM Ratings for nearly 30 years. Ng brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having previously served as the deputy CEO and head of data analytics at the ratings agency.

In a statement, the ratings agency said Ng was its former deputy CEO and head of data analytics with over 30 years of experience in risk management, credit rating, financial analysis and project management.

“Julie has demonstrated exceptional leadership in driving strategic business initiatives, spearheading research, and fostering product innovation and development in the risk and sustainability domains, making her a strong leader to steer RAM Ratings’ current aspirations and future endeavours,” it said.

In addition to Ng’s appointment, RAM Ratings has also named Siew Suet Ming as its deputy CEO, alongside her current role as chief rating officer (CRO). Siew, with over 20 years of experience in credit risk management, has been instrumental in the development of rating methodologies and the evaluation of new asset classes, particularly in structured finance. As CRO and deputy CEO, Siew will continue to oversee the analytical rating operations while providing support to the new CEO, Julie Ng.

These leadership changes underscore RAM Ratings’ commitment to excellence, integrity, and sustainability. The company aims to enhance its brand equity, drive business growth, and achieve strategic objectives under the guidance of the new leadership team.

Datuk Kamaruddin Taib, Chairman of the Board, conveyed sincere gratitude to Awang Za’aba for his invaluable contributions, by stating “His leadership has been pivotal in shaping RAM Ratings’ success, and we extend our best wishes to him for a well-deserved retirement.”

Datuk Kamaruddin Taib voiced strong confidence in the capabilities of the new leadership team, affirming their ability to lead effectively. He said “Under the guidance of Julie Ng and Siew Suet Ming, RAM Ratings will continue to enhance its brand equity, drive business growth, and achieve its strategic objectives.”

“This transition at RAM Ratings underscores RAM Group’s unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, and sustainability, as it embarks on a journey of innovation and agility to capitalise on emerging growth opportunities while maintaining its core business strengths,” he added.
