Semiconductor company AMD and AI developer Anthropic have announced a major strategic partnership that will see up to 2 gigawatts of AMD Instinct MI450 Series GPUs deployed in AMD Helios rackscale solutions.
The initial rollout phase for the first gigawatt is scheduled to start in the first half of 2027. Under the agreement, Anthropic will integrate AMD Helios rackscale systems powered by AMD Instinct MI455X GPUs. The setup combines AMD EPYC “Venice” CPUs, AMD Pensando networking hardware and AMD ROCm software to support large-scale AI training and inference requirements. The move builds on Anthropic’s existing use of AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs.
Alongside the hardware expansion, AMD has committed to make a strategic equity investment of up to $5 billion in Anthropic.
The two firms are also embarking on a multiyear technical collaboration. The initiatives will use Anthropic’s Claude model to optimise workloads running on AMD Instinct GPUs and speed up development of the AMD ROCm software platform. AMD will also roll out Claude across its internal engineering and product development teams.

The deal represents a significant expansion for AMD in the global AI infrastructure market, while providing Anthropic with scaled compute capacity to support growing user demand for its Claude models.
