QatarEnergy signs long-term helium deal with Messer

QatarEnergy has signed a long-term sales and purchase agreement (SPA) with German-based Messer for the supply of 100 million cubic feet per year of high-purity helium from its Ras Laffan facilities to customers around the world.

The agreement marks QatarEnergy’s first direct long-term deal with Messer, which is the largest privately owned industrial gases company globally.

The signing ceremony took place at QatarEnergy’s headquarters in Doha on 29 September 2025. It was hosted by His Excellency Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and the President and CEO of QatarEnergy, and was attended by Mr. Bernd Eulitz, Global CEO of Messer SE & Co. KGaA. Senior executives from both companies were also present at the event.

Speaking at the ceremony, H.E. Minister Al-Kaabi said: “Messer is a leading global supplier of helium with a strong reputation and diverse assets.  We are delighted to enter into our first direct agreement with Messer and to continue providing high-quality helium to the world through reliable partners.”

He added: “This agreement underscores QatarEnergy’s commitment to delivering reliable resources from one of the world’s largest helium producers to support fast-growing industries worldwide.”

Helium is a vital component in a range of high-tech sectors, including MRI technology, semiconductor production, quantum computing, fibre optics, and space missions.
