Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, officially unveiled MaiA (Meticulous Artificial Intelligence of Indonesia), an AI platform designed to enhance the country’s tourism services, at the Sapta Pesona Building in Jakarta on Friday, 28 November 2025. The launch forms part of the government’s priority Tourism 5.0 programme.

MaiA, accessible via indonesia.travel, is intended to improve national tourism by providing adaptive and smart technology tailored to travellers’ needs. The platform functions as a digital travel companion, offering personalised destination recommendations, automatic itinerary creation, interactive maps, and multilingual destination summaries. It represents a strategic step in Indonesia’s digital tourism development, connecting visitors more closely with the country’s culture, experiences, and local stories.

“The launch of MaiA is the actual implementation of the government’s commitment to establishing a smart, inclusive, and sustainable tourism ecosystem,” Minister Widiyanti said during the event, which was themed Transforming Travel Beyond Ordinary Through Intelligence.

The Minister described MaiA not just as a technological innovation but as a new spirit in Indonesian tourism services. She explained that the AI system helps travellers discover destinations, plan routes, and explore Indonesia confidently. “This is our step toward shaping tourism that is not only beautiful to behold, but also intelligent and inclusive for all,” she added.

Minister Widiyanti highlighted that MaiA responds to changing global tourist behaviour, as visitors increasingly seek personal, efficient, and easily accessible experiences. By integrating intelligent guidance into travel, the platform is expected to enhance Indonesia’s global competitiveness and support sustainable tourism development.

The launch attracted government officials, tourism associations, industry stakeholders, and representatives of national and international media. The Ministry anticipates that MaiA will add significant value to travellers’ experiences while positioning Indonesia as an innovative and relevant destination on the international tourism stage.

“Let us welcome MaiA as a step forward toward a more adaptive, competitive, and world-class future for Indonesian tourism,” said the Minister of Tourism.
