Malaysia Airports Group has reached a significant milestone, recording a remarkable 12.4 million passenger movements in July 2024. This figure represents a notable 7.3 per cent rise compared to the previous month and sets a new post-pandemic record.

The impressive growth was largely fueled by activity at local airports, which saw a total of 8.5 million passenger movements. This total included 4.5 million international and 4.0 million domestic passengers, marking an 8.0 per cent increase month-on-month from June 2024.

International passenger numbers surged by 11 per cent month-on-month, while domestic travel saw a 5.0 per cent rise over the same period.

Key travel markets such as Indonesia, China, and Singapore continued to be significant contributors to this increase. The introduction of Qingdao Airlines and boosted flight frequencies to and from China and Indonesia played a crucial role in achieving a total seat capacity recovery rate of 85.8 per cent.

In addition to these domestic achievements, Malaysia Airports’ Turkish asset, Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport, also saw a notable performance. It recorded 3.9 million passenger movements in July, reflecting a 6.0 per cent increase from the previous month.

The airport’s growth was driven by the summer holiday season, the introduction of new routes, and increased flight frequencies. International passenger traffic at Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen reached nearly 2.0 million, marking a 9.0 per cent rise over June 2024. Domestic passenger numbers also climbed to 1.9 million, up 3.0 per cent month-on-month.
