Kuok Hui Kwong appointed CEO of Shangri-La Asia, effective August 2025

Ms Kuok, 47, is also the daughter of Shangri-La founder Robert Kuok, who is Malaysia’s wealthiest individual. She has served as the group’s Executive Director since June 2016 and took over as Chairman in January 2017.

Shangri-La Asia has announced that Kuok Hui Kwong will take on the role of Chief Executive Officer from 1 August 2025, while continuing as Chairman and Executive Director of the company.

Ms Kuok, 47, is also the daughter of Shangri-La founder Robert Kuok, who is Malaysia’s wealthiest individual. She has served as the group’s Executive Director since June 2016 and took over as Chairman in January 2017.

“The combination of the roles of chairman and chief executive officer under the leadership of Ms Kuok is expected to enhance the company’s strategic cohesion and operational execution by ensuring a unified and consistent vision across all levels of leadership,” the company stated in a bourse filing.

Since joining the board, Ms Kuok has played a central role in steering Shangri-La’s business direction. The group credited her with being “primarily responsible for formulating the company’s strategic priorities and steering the company towards its goals.”

The CEO role had remained vacant since December 2022 following the retirement of Lim Beng Chee, who stepped down after serving nearly six years.

Under her current employment terms, Ms Kuok receives a monthly base salary of HK$576,000 (US$73,000), in addition to a discretionary bonus and pension benefits. She also holds a total direct and indirect stake of 95.57 million shares in Shangri-La Asia, which is listed on both the Hong Kong and Singapore stock exchanges.

Ms Kuok holds a Bachelor’s degree in East Asian Studies from Harvard University. Over the past three years, she has served as a director at China World Trade Centre Company. Her previous roles include serving as the Managing Director and CEO of SCMP Group, and Director of the Bangkok Post.
