The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed the list of officials for the league stage of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, including the appointments for the tournament’s opening matches.
Claire Polosak and Eloise Sheridan will stand as on-field umpires for the curtain-raiser between India and Sri Lanka in Guwahati. The pair have already made history together, becoming the first female duo to officiate a professional match in Australia in 2018. Five years later, they were again pioneers, overseeing a Sheffield Shield fixture.
This year’s event will be Polosak’s third World Cup appearance, while Sheridan featured in the 2022 edition in New Zealand. They will be joined in the opening game by Kim Cotton as TV umpire, Shathira Jakir Jesy as fourth umpire, and Shandré Fritz in the role of match referee.
Defending champions will open their campaign the following day in Indore, facing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup holders New Zealand. Sue Redfern and Gayathri Venugopalan have been appointed as on-field umpires for that contest.
On 2 October, Sri Lanka will host its first match of the competition, with Lauren Agenbag and Nimali Perera set to officiate Bangladesh’s clash with Pakistan. Agenbag has prior experience on the big stage, having stood in the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 final alongside Kim Cotton.
The ICC confirmed that appointments for the semi-finals will be announced after the group stage concludes, with details for the final to follow once the competing teams are known.
