Canopius Group, a global specialty and property and casualty insurer and reinsurer, has named Ms. Lee Soon Keen as the Chief Executive Officer for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) and Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regions. This appointment is set to take effect before the conclusion of the second quarter of 2024, subject to regulatory approval. Ms. Lee will assume leadership of Canopius’s APAC business unit spanning Singapore and Australia. Additionally, she will spearhead the regional executive committee and drive the ongoing evolution of Canopius’s operations across APAC.
With a distinguished 28-year career, Ms. Lee held the position of Head of Commercial Property and SME for APAC at AIG APAC in her most recent role. Her experience includes pivotal roles in property underwriting and management at AIG Malaysia and Singapore, as well as senior insurance and treaty positions at Catlin and Aspen Re Singapore.
Ms. Lee’s appointment follows the transition from Mark Newman, who has been appointed to lead Canopius’s UK business from London. Neil Robertson, CEO of Canopius Group, expressed confidence in Ms. Lee’s ability to propel the company’s growth in the region, citing her exceptional experience and leadership qualities.

Ms. Lee is poised to join the group’s leadership team and will report directly to Mr. Robertson upon assuming her new role. Canopius underscores her pivotal role in advancing the Asia-Pacific operation, which experienced a robust 35% growth last year. Ms. Lee also expressed enthusiasm about the prospects in the region, aiming to solidify Canopius’s position as the premier Lloyd’s syndicate in Singapore while fostering the expansion of its offerings in Australia.
Her appointment underscores Canopius’s commitment to strategic leadership and growth across key markets, setting the stage for continued success and innovation under Ms. Lee’s stewardship.
