Aqaba played host to a key regional event on Sunday as Senate President Faisal Fayez officially opened the “Digitization for Economic Empowerment in a Fast-Growing World” conference. The gathering, organized by the Entrepreneurship Center in collaboration with the Arabia Center for Entrepreneurship and Empowerment, brought together influential figures from across the Arab world to discuss the intersection of technology and entrepreneurship.

In his opening address, Fayez highlighted the advancements Jordanian women have achieved in multiple fields, crediting the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II for continuously supporting women’s inclusion and empowerment. He remarked that women in Jordan are not just participating but leading across political, economic, and social arenas.

Fayez noted that the kingdom has taken deliberate steps to ensure women’s rights are upheld, referencing legislative reviews and legal reforms aimed at solidifying their presence across various institutions. Jordanian women hold prominent roles across various sectors, including government, the judiciary, diplomacy, security, and leadership positions in both regional and international organisations.

He also acknowledged the broader challenges in the Arab world, particularly in regions affected by conflict, where instability continues to limit women’s political and economic engagement.

Turning his focus to Aqaba, Fayez praised the transformation of the city, describing it as a future-ready destination, thanks in large part to initiatives led by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II.

He underscored that digital transformation is essential in today’s world and that it opens up meaningful opportunities for women, particularly in entrepreneurship. Fayez emphasized the importance of technology in overcoming traditional barriers, such as geographic limitations and societal norms, and called for greater investment in digital infrastructure, education, and inclusive policies.

He emphasised that women’s empowerment is essential for a stronger society, pointing out that true national development is not possible without their full involvement in decision-making and inclusive participation.

Rania Haddadin, Director of the Entrepreneurship Center, added that digital platforms and government communication tools play an integral role in shaping the national narrative and supporting the economic empowerment of women. She emphasized that keeping pace with rapid technological changes is vital for Jordan’s broader governance and development goals.

Throughout the conference, attendees participated in sessions focused on women’s entrepreneurship, the impact of institutions on female inclusion, and regional success stories. The event also created a space for networking among female entrepreneurs representing a wide range of Arab nations.
