The African Development Bank Group is set to host a virtual workshop focused on women’s land rights as part of its 2025 Annual Meetings. Scheduled for 21 May 2025 from 9:15 to 11:00 AM GMT, the event titled “Women’s Land Rights: A Strategic Investment for Africa’s Prosperity and Resilience” will bring together voices from government, civil society, development partners, and financial institutions.

Organised by the Bank’s African Natural Resources Management and Investment Center and its Gender and Women Empowerment Division, the webinar aims to emphasise the critical importance of securing land rights for African women. Despite being responsible for up to 70 percent of food production across the continent, only 13 percent of African women are sole landowners, limiting their economic opportunities and access to finance.

The event will open with a keynote discussion emphasising the urgency of addressing this issue, followed by testimonies from grassroots organisations that will shed light on real-world challenges and successes. A panel discussion will feature experts from the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, the Initiative Prospective Agricole et Rurale, and the African Development Bank, examining the connections between land rights, food security, and climate resilience.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage with speakers through a question-and-answer session, providing a platform for deeper insights into how securing women’s land rights can drive economic growth, enhance gender equality, and promote climate resilience across Africa.
