Ali Riley teams up with Mira to revolutionise women’s fertility care and hormone health, empowering athletes and individuals to take control of their reproductive journeys

Hormonal health company Mira has announced a new partnership with professional footballer Ali Riley, aiming to bring greater visibility and support to women navigating fertility, hormone-related challenges, and key life transitions such as motherhood and menopause.

Riley, who plays for Angel City FC and captains the New Zealand Women’s National Team, has joined forces with Mira as she recovers from what could be a career-ending injury. During her recovery, she has spoken openly about the emotional and physical strain of IVF, and how hormone monitoring gave her back a sense of control.

Riley began tracking her hormone levels with Mira at a time when she was uncertain whether motherhood was a realistic goal. “So many parts of my life this year have felt up in the air, with a lot of uncertainty, but Mira gave me a routine. It gave me concrete information to rely on. Having this resource was powerful- the one thing I knew I wanted, when I wasn’t able to play soccer or spend time with my team, was to do something for my future. And that was to have the option of having a baby,” said Riley.

She continued to use Mira while undergoing IVF treatment. “I felt like I had a roadmap in front of me,” she said. “When I saw that I was still in a late reproductive phase, I felt a sense of hope. And being able to track my levels at home during IVF gave me peace of mind between doctor’s appointments — I wasn’t left wondering what was happening inside my body.”

Mira offers lab-quality hormone tracking technology that users can access from the comfort of their own homes. It is the first at-home hormone monitor clinically validated for use during fertility treatments, offering medical-grade accuracy. Research has shown that urine E3G tracked using Mira correlates with the number of eggs retrieved during IVF in a similar way to traditional blood-based estradiol testing.

These early findings highlight the potential of at-home hormone monitoring to significantly enhance both the experience of patients and the overall effectiveness of fertility care, especially during intense or time-sensitive periods.

Riley hopes that by sharing her story, she can help other women feel less isolated, whether they’re going through IVF, stepping back from a career, or simply seeking to understand their hormonal health better.

Her experience also draws attention to ongoing gaps within professional sports, where issues around reproductive health are often overlooked. “Most research in sports medicine is based on men’s bodies,” she explained. “There’s a huge lack of education when it comes to fertility, IVF, even menstrual cycles, it’s still taboo in many teams.”

For female athletes, fertility preservation and IVF are usually limited to the off-season and are rarely supported institutionally. “There are so many decisions we’re forced to make without the right information or resources,” Riley added. “I was lucky to have access to Mira and a strong support system, but so many of my colleagues are flying blind. That has to change.”

To address this, Mira is offering to donate hormone-tracking kits to football clubs interested in supporting their players with better fertility and hormone health tools.

Together, Mira and Riley are advocating for greater transparency, access, and empathy in women’s healthcare. They are aiming to ensure that women, no matter their journey, feel informed, supported, and empowered.
