The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced a free transport service for female students in several remote districts to help promote girls’ education. The initiative, led by the Gandapur government, aims to address the problem of long travel distances that often force girls to discontinue school. Free transport will be provided in underdeveloped and isolated districts such as Kohistan, Torghar, Hangu, and Lakki Marwat, as well as Dera Ismail Khan, Charsadda, Kohat, and Bannu.

District Education Officers have been officially notified to implement the scheme so that more girls can safely and regularly attend school without transportation barriers.

Similar measures in Punjab

Concurrently, the Punjab government has approved a unique student travel card to make it easier for students to utilise public transit systems as part of a student-friendly travel campaign.

Senior citizens and people with disabilities can travel for free as part of the scheme, which is headed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Furthermore, plans to introduce a tram service are being developed with the goal of enhancing public transport for both the general public and students.
