AfDB and Ethio Telecom join forces to boost digital infrastructure across Africa

AfDB officials have praised Ethio Telecom’s efforts in driving digital innovation and expanding connectivity across Africa, highlighting the company’s role in shaping the continent’s future. H.E. Mr. Solomon Quaynor, a senior figure at the African Development Bank, pointed out that supporting telecom operators is crucial for strengthening both economies and societies. He emphasised that Ethio Telecom’s contributions go far beyond providing connectivity; they are vital for fostering innovation and promoting sustainable development throughout Africa.

The AfDB also expressed interest in exploring various areas for collaboration with Ethio Telecom and confirmed its continued support for the company’s digital initiatives. Quaynor reassured the company, saying, “This is your bank, and you can count on us to support your next steps,” showing a strong commitment to their shared goals.

Ms. Frehiwot Tamiru, CEO of Ethio Telecom emphasized the importance of collaboration in realizing Ethio Telecom’s vision for Digital Ethiopia, showcasing the company’s advancements. She stated, “Ethio Telecom is committed to transforming Ethiopia and advancing Africa’s digital empowerment. Through infrastructure expansion and the provision of innovative digital solutions, we are driving inclusive economic growth and shaping a more interconnected future.”

As part of its ongoing strategic plans, Ethio Telecom has committed to investing over $1.1 billion in digital infrastructure and services in the current fiscal year. This major financial commitment demonstrates the company’s determination to accelerate technological development and contribute to socio-economic progress in the region.
