HSBC Holdings Plc is looking to appoint its first-ever female finance director in its 159-year history. Pam Kaur is a top contender among several senior executives for this high-profile role in global banking.

Kaur, who is currently HSBC’s chief risk and compliance officer, is reportedly a frontrunner for the CFO position that opened up after Georges Elhedery took over from Noel Quinn as CEO on September 2. This information comes from sources close to the matter, as reported by Bloomberg.

In addition to Kaur other candidates include Greg Guyett, who heads global banking and markets; Willard McLane, the group head of strategy and corporate development; and Kavita Mahtani, CFO of HSBC’s Europe and Western Markets, as reported by Bloomberg News. The report also noted that no final decision had been made, and other candidates could still enter the race.

Kaur’s banking career features impressive roles at leading global institutions. She previously worked as the global director of compliance for consumer banking at Citigroup and was also the global head of group audit at Deutsche Bank.
