FINCA Uganda, a leading microfinance institution, has proudly announced the appointment of Janet Mudoola as its new brand ambassador. This strategic move is aimed at reinforcing the company’s dedication to sustainable economic growth and empowering women across the nation.

Janet Mudoola’s association with FINCA dates back to 1992 when she was among the first customers to be served by the institution in Iganga. Her journey with FINCA has now come full circle as she steps into this role, signing a two-year contract to represent the brand and motivate other women to achieve financial success.

During the unveiling ceremony on Tuesday, Mudoola expressed her deep appreciation for the unwavering support she has received from FINCA over the past 34 years. Reflecting on her experience, she said, “FINCA believed in our dreams and saw our potential as women to grow financially. I am so proud to have been able to grow my business and educate my children in partnership with FINCA.”

Janet Mudoola’s story is deeply intertwined with the history of FINCA Uganda. She was a key figure in the first group formed by the institution, known as Twegate Kimanto, which was established in 1992. This group has since become a model for village banking, not only in Uganda but also globally.

Jeff Flowers, Chief Executive of FINCA Impact Finance, the global network to which FINCA Uganda belongs, lauded Mudoola’s journey. He remarked, “Janet’s story is proof that when given opportunity and resources, women will transform their lives and communities.”

In her new role, Mudoola will be traveling to various events around Uganda, sharing her inspirational story and encouraging other women to recognize their potential and the resources available to them. FINCA Uganda plans to feature her story prominently in its publications and outreach materials as part of their ongoing efforts to highlight the transformative power of financial inclusion.

Olive Lumonya, Chair of the FINCA Uganda Board, emphasized the significance of having ambassadors like Mudoola to help women access financial services. “Thousands of women will see themselves in Janet and be inspired to improve their living situations,” she noted. “And time and time again, when women succeed financially, their families and communities see massive benefits.”

Since its establishment in 1984, FINCA has been at the forefront of empowering women to achieve financial independence, offering tailored financial products and literacy training. In Uganda, the organization has supported over 530,000 individuals and their families, with 45.5% of its 150,000-strong customer base being women.

FINCA Uganda’s efforts continue to expand, reaching some of the most marginalized communities in the country, including refugees, to bolster their resilience and ability to contribute to the Ugandan economy.
