Smartphone manufacturer Vivo has introduced an initiative called ‘KanyaGyaan’ to coincide with International Women’s Day, aimed at empowering young women in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). As technological advancements continue to accelerate, the need for skilled professionals in these areas has become increasingly urgent. However, the gender disparity in STEM remains a significant hurdle, particularly for young women from underprivileged backgrounds who often lack access to vital resources and opportunities.

The KanyaGyaan initiative is designed as a nationwide programme that seeks to equip young Indian women with the skills necessary for successful careers in STEM. This initiative offers a range of support including mentorship, skill development, and exposure to industry practices. So far, it has positively impacted 150 women, helping to dismantle both financial and societal barriers that hinder their progress.

Geetaj Channana, the head of corporate strategy at vivo India, stated, “Empowering young women in STEM isn’t just an initiative; it is a necessity for real progress. Through the ‘vivo KanyaGyaan’ initiative, we are breaking barriers by providing education, mentorship, and opportunities that help them shape their own futures.” She also highlighted that the campaign film for Women’s Day embodies this ethos through the metaphor of “carrying their own chairs,” symbolising determination and self-empowerment. Channana expressed hope that this would inspire a broader movement towards empowerment and action within STEM fields.

In addition to the initiative itself, vivo has launched a digital campaign that underscores the importance of diversity in the workforce. The campaign envisions a future where women can realise their aspirations and contribute meaningfully to societal advancement. Produced by FCB India, the campaign film narrates the inspiring stories of young women from diverse regions of India as they navigate challenges on their paths to achieving their educational and career goals.

Ashima Mehra, CEO of FCB India, remarked on the significance of this initiative: “A world where women are empowered in STEM is a world where everyone wins. It’s not just about opportunity—it’s about unlocking untapped potential, driving innovation, and solving global challenges. This campaign shows us that when we lift women up, we create a brighter, better future for all.”

Through KanyaGyaan, vivo aims not only to support individual aspirations but also to foster a more inclusive and innovative future in the tech landscape of India.
