Munich Re, a leading global reinsurer, has announced the appointment of Surbhi Goel as the new CEO of its India branch, effective October. This appointment marks a significant milestone as Surbhi becomes the first female CEO to lead Munich Re’s operations in India. Her appointment is subject to regulatory approval.
Surbhi will succeed Hitesh Kotak, who will transition to an expanded role overseeing Japan, India, Korea, and South-East Asia, starting July 1. In her new capacity, Surbhi will report directly to Hitesh.
Prior to her appointment as CEO, Surbhi served as the head of the Property & Casualty business in South-East Asia since 2022. Before that, she held various senior positions in underwriting, business development, and reinsurance at a leading insurer in India, dating back to 2008.
As CEO, Surbhi will assume responsibility for Munich Re’s property and casualty reinsurance business in India. Hitesh expressed confidence in Surbhi’s capabilities, citing her deep understanding of India’s insurance market and her ability to support clients in their growth journey.
“I am very much looking forward to the new responsibility of driving Munich Re’s growth in the Indian market,” said Surabhi, expressing her enthusiasm for the role.
