Saudi Arabia has ascended to the top of the global cybersecurity rankings, as revealed by the 2024 World Competitiveness Yearbook from the Swiss-based Institute for Management Development (IMD).

Central to this achievement is the National Cybersecurity Authority (NCA), supported technically by the Saudi Information Technology Company (SITE). The NCA attributes Saudi Arabia’s success to its extensive local and international cybersecurity initiatives.

A cornerstone of these efforts is the Global Cybersecurity Forum (GCF), a key platform for international discussions on cybersecurity strategy. Complementing the GCF is the GCF Institute, which promotes global cooperation in this vital sector.

Saudi Arabia’s leadership extends to regional efforts, evidenced by the creation of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Cybersecurity Ministerial Committee and the Council of Arab Cybersecurity Ministers. Both bodies highlight the Kingdom’s dedication to fostering regional and Arab-wide cybersecurity collaboration.

The NCA’s commitment to global cybersecurity collaboration is further demonstrated through its cybersecurity exercises involving over 40 countries. Within Saudi Arabia, the NCA focuses on strengthening cybersecurity through regulatory frameworks, partnerships with industry stakeholders, and various initiatives.

Key domestic programs include the National Cybersecurity Academy, aimed at developing a skilled workforce, and initiatives designed to boost industry growth and investment. The National Program for Research, Development, and Innovation in Cybersecurity underscores Saudi Arabia’s long-term dedication to this critical field.
