Revolut, a prominent UK financial institution, has introduced an innovative eSIM service, marking its entry into the telecom sector. The move positions Revolut as a trailblazer, potentially setting a precedent for fintech firms globally.

Compatible with modern Apple and Android smartphones, Revolut’s eSIMs start at £2 for 1GB per location, offering various data plans to cater to diverse needs. These digital SIM cards, eliminating the need for physical counterparts, aim to simplify global data access for users, particularly beneficial for travelers facing scenarios like exhausting data upon entering a new country.

Basic eSIM plans are available for non-subscribers, while premium Ultra package subscribers enjoy 3GB of global data monthly, avoiding unexpected roaming charges.

Elyas Sadou, Product Owner of eSIM at Revolut, commented: “At Revolut, we harness technology to simplify our customers’ lives, and that’s precisely what our eSIM accomplishes. It offers seamless access to mobile data, eliminating the inconvenience of high prices or the need to buy and organise a physical SIM card.’

Whether you are in the US, Australia or Egypt, you can effortlessly secure a data plan with just a few taps on your phone, and then instantly share those breathtaking photos of your trip with friends and family. It’s a game-changer for people who love to travel.”

The launch comes at a crucial time as UK residents encounter increasing mobile data roaming charges post-Brexit. Revolut’s eSIM solution offers a timely alternative, especially for frequent travelers, enabling them to maintain data connectivity without incurring exorbitant costs.

Moreover, the eSIM service is designed to cater to business banking customers, addressing the challenges posed by rising roaming charges. Customers on the Ultra tier can access 3GB of global data monthly, while an introductory offer of 100MB is available to all UK customers until May 1, 2024.

Revolut plans to expand its service offerings beyond banking, aiming to build a comprehensive “super app” covering various financial verticals. The eSIM service signifies Revolut’s commitment to innovation and customer-centric solutions in the evolving fintech landscape.
