Qatari mountaineer Sheikha Asma Al-Thani has been officially named Pakistan’s Brand Ambassador for Mountains and Tourism by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The announcement was made by the Prime Minister via the social media platform X and he wrote, “I am pleased to announce that Her Excellency Sheikha Asma Al-Thani has been appointed as Pakistan’s Brand Ambassador for Mountains and Tourism.”
Sheikha Asma recently made history by becoming the first Qatari woman to scale Nanga Parbat, a peak that challenges even the most seasoned climbers due to its harsh weather and demanding terrain. Her successful ascent of the mountain marks the ninth summit in her ongoing quest to conquer all 14 of the world’s highest peaks.
Congratulating Sheikha Asma on her recent mountaineering feat, the Prime Minister praised her for summiting Nanga Parbat, an 8,126-metre-high peak famously known as the “killer mountain.” He described the achievement as a proud and inspiring moment.
By planting the Qatari flag at the summit, Sheikha Asma not only added a new chapter to her mountaineering journey but also underscored the growing role of women in global adventure sports. Her achievement stands as a powerful example of resilience and empowerment, bringing honour to Qatar and making an impression on the international mountaineering community.
The appointment highlights a growing cultural and diplomatic connection between Pakistan and Qatar, especially in the promotion of eco-tourism and adventure travel across the mountainous regions of Pakistan.
