Organon, a prominent global healthcare company dedicated to women’s health, collaborated with the Forge Society—Egypt’s Foundation for Obstetrics, Reproductive Health, and Gynaecology to host “Her Summit” in Cairo. This gathering aimed to shed light on the essential role of family planning in promoting gender equality, empowering women, and alleviating poverty within the country.

The summit gathered experts, healthcare professionals, and policymakers to discuss accessible family planning for Egyptian women. Organon emphasized that safe family planning is vital for women’s health and community well-being.

A panel featured Dr. Doaa Mohamed Ali (Ministry of Health), Dr. Abeer El-Behiry (Egyptian Drug Authority), Dr. Maha Mowafy (UNFPA), Dr. Maha Wanis (World Bank), and Dr. Tarek Abo El-Einein (Organon). They examined the opportunities and challenges in achieving Egypt’s family planning goals and highlighted the benefits of long-acting methods.

The Egyptian government is prioritizing women’s health, aiming to reduce the total fertility rate from 3.5 children per woman in 2014 to 2.4 by 2030 as part of the National Population Strategy (2015-2030).

Dr. Doaa Mohamed Ali highlighted the launch of the “Bedaya” initiative, a government programme under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s patronage, designed to support families, especially women. She noted the government’s recent success in reducing fertility rates, attributing this progress to a comprehensive plan that includes the introduction of modern family planning methods, targeted awareness campaigns via social media, and robust training programmes for healthcare providers.

Organon’s commitment to family planning includes a three-year collaboration with the Egyptian government and Ministry of Health. They participated in the global population congress to unveil the 2023-2030 National Strategy for Population and Development and helped launch the EPF MENA Family Planning Atlas. Additionally, Organon formed a strategic partnership with UNFPA to enhance family planning services in underserved areas, focusing on service standards, healthcare professional training, and digital empowerment for women in Egypt.

Additionally, Organon supports the “Osra” project, a USAID-funded initiative worth $40 million, which aims to strengthen family planning efforts and increase access to long-acting contraceptive methods, thereby enabling women and families to make informed choices regarding their reproductive health.

Dr. Tarek Abo El-Einein stated, “At Organon, we are deeply committed to addressing the pressing needs of women’s health in Egypt, with a special focus on family planning. Through our initiatives, partnerships, and collaborations with multiple stakeholders, we aim to provide women with greater access to safe and effective family planning options, empowering them to make informed decisions about their reproductive health.” He further stressed the importance of collaboration, stating, “By working closely with healthcare providers and government bodies, we continue to support Egypt’s national efforts in improving family planning services and programmes, ultimately contributing to the well-being of families and the broader community.”

Dr. Ehab Serag Allam, a professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Ain Shams University, emphasized Forge Foundation’s dedication to continuous medical education. In collaboration with Organon, Forge organised various scientific lectures, discussions, and workshops aimed at enhancing the skills of medical teams involved in family planning, sharing the latest global recommendations with esteemed obstetrics and gynecology experts from various Egyptian universities. Dr. Ehab also affirmed that Forge Foundation plans to continue offering educational events across different governorates in partnership with various educational and private sector entities.

The Forge Society played a key role in organizing a summit focused on advancing obstetrics and reproductive health in Egypt. By fostering interdisciplinary discussions on family planning, the event provided physicians and pharmacists with insights into the latest innovations and best practices. It highlighted Egypt’s commitment to women’s health and recognized national initiatives aligned with global goals. Organon remains dedicated to collaborating with stakeholders for a healthier future for women in Egypt and beyond.
